There are currently 150,000-plus Build-to-Rent homes either completed, in development or green-lit ahead of planning. That’s fantastic news for renters, who have never had so much choice in the rental market.

If you’ve just begun your property search and are looking for a new home, it’s time to look at the world of Build-to-Rent. After all, who wouldn’t want to live in a home made exclusively for them, with the added bonus of five-star social spaces?

And yet, living in a Build-to-Rent community is so much more than snazzy apartments and top-notch amenities (though they definitely help). So if you’re wondering whether the Build-to-Rent lifestyle is for you, read on and find you why you will benefit from living in a home designed just for renters.

Flexibility and freedom in beautifully-designed homes

Moving into a Build-to-Rent community is a piece of cake. There’s no need to worry about kitting out your new place if you don’t want to, as apartments are tastefully designed with stylish furnishings and the latest appliances.

However, if you do fancy yourself as an interior designer, many Build-to-Rent options give you full freedom to create your own masterpiece. Every aspect is flexible, from designing your place to contracts that provide a bit more leeway than your typical rental agreement.

It’s all about the social spaces

Plush apartments with the latest decor certainly play their role in the appeal of Build-to-Rent communities, but the on-site social spaces add a whole new dynamic. Living in a community is so much more than what’s on offer in your apartment.

Most Build-to-Rent buildings offer a range of amenities that provide a holistic approach to renting. With fitness suites, residents’ lounges, roof terraces, cinema and gaming rooms, dining areas and swimming pools and spas, you will be spoilt for choice when it comes to living in a Build-to-Rent community.

Communal Spaces

Zero. Zilch. Nada

The tenant fee ban was great news for renters, removing many of the costly admin fees associated with moving home. But there’s still a pesky security deposit to think about when you move into a new place – unless you’re moving into a Build-to-Rent community, where many offer a zero deposit option.

Instead of paying a deposit amounting to five week’s worth of rent, you’ll only need to pay a one-off fee that equates to one week’s rent. You get the same protection afforded by a regular deposit, just without the large financial outlay. This is called zero deposit renting, and it’s here to make your life much easier.

Extra, extra, read all about it

Let's suppose those amazing apartments, five-star amenities and zero deposits don't have you Google mapping it to the nearest Build-to-Rent home. In that case, the handy extras on offer at communities will surely excite you. Let's start with concierge services. Enjoy hotel-style services with someone on hand to welcome you into the building and help out with any questions you may have.

Then there are extras like using an app or online portal to report maintenance issues, which makes managing your in-life tenancy much easier. Other benefits include bike storage (because we've all got one of those now), underground car parks and on-site laundry and dry cleaning services. Again, Build-to-Rent really does provide a holistic approach to modern-day living.

Secure the perimeter

Security plays a big role in moving to a new home, whether you’re living on the ground floor or up high in the sky. You don’t want to move into somewhere that doesn’t offer security.  Fortunately, Build-to-Rent communities are super secure.

We've already mentioned the on-site concierges, but 24/7 CCTV and well-secured buildings offer added peace of mind. It means that you can rest assured that your Build-to-Rent living experience will be as safe as it comes.

Welcome to the community

You might have noticed that we’ve used the word “community” a fair few times already. That’s because Build-to-Rent homes embody community living. They pop up in big cities like London and Manchester, which can sometimes feel a little cold and isolating, and bring everyone together.

Get to know your neighbours in the residents’ lounge or partake in monthly community events. Modern-day renters are all about the interaction, and Build-to-Rent living facilitates our desire to feel involved and like we’re part of something bigger than merely having a nice home to live in. And during the age of Covid-19, many Build-to-Rent communities have taken their activities online!
