Who says that listening to music requires a Spotify account and an internet connection? The vinyl revival is in full effect, as more people are choosing to play their music “old skool”. And Manchester is a hotbed for record shops with a selection of great music. Where are they located? Read on to find out.

Piccadilly Records

The original independent record shop of the Northern Quarter, Piccadilly Records has been in business for an impressive 40 years. Specialist buyers curate its collection, and there’s always new stock in the store. So head to Piccadilly Records to find an extensive range of music from lots of different genres.

Address: 53 Oldham St, Manchester M1 1JR

Vinyl Resting Place

Other than having a truly excellent name, Vinyl Resting Place has been going strong since 2014 and has quickly become a favourite in Manchester for anyone looking to buy a record or two. There’s a mix of rare music, all-time classics and even pound-bin bargains. Wander around Vinyl Resting Place and browse the well-stocked boxes of house, techno, disco, jazz, rock and soul music. If vinyl is dead, this is where you go to pay your respects.

Address: 3rd, Afflecks Arcade, 52 Church St, Manchester M4 1PW

Eastern Bloc Records

A true vinyl purist, Eastern Bloc Records is the spot where all of Manchester’s DJs go to hang out and shop the selection. It specialises in electronic music and hosts regular events in the store. There’s also food and drinks available, so you can shop and snack.

Address: 5a Stevenson Square, Manchester M1 1DN

Vinyl Exchange

The Northern Quarter is the hippest place in Manchester and is full of galleries, bars, and, you guessed it, record shops. Along with Piccadilly Records, Vinyl Exchange has been going for 15 years and is the largest buyer of secondhand vinyl, CDs and DVDs in the northwest. So get yourself down to the store and source some hard-to-find gems spread across two floors.

Address: 18 Oldham St, Manchester M1 1JN

Hi-Tackle

Embrace the neon-tinged lights of Hi-Tackle and search shelves for records that have been expertly curated over the last decade. There are also guest crates to browse from a range of DJs, meaning you can indulge in a world of all things vinyl at Hi-Tackle.

Downtex Mill, Mary Street, Manchester M3 1NH

Vinyl Revival

Get yourself down to Vinyl Revival and listen to the sounds of the city. The store specialises in Manchester-specific music, with songs from the 1950s all the way to the present day. A trip to Vinyl Revival is a bit like visiting a museum and getting to see the history of music in Manchester throughout the ages.

Address: 5 Hilton St, Manchester M4 1LP

Kingbee Records

With a bright yellow facade, it’s impossible to miss Kingbee Records, which has 34 years of sounds to discover. It’s somewhat of a collector’s paradise with stock always changing. And if you’re lucky enough to visit on the right day you might even find a rare gem or some weird and wacky soundtracks.

Address: 519 Wilbraham Rd, Chorlton-cum-Hardy, Manchester M21 0UF

Deco Records

A secluded spot in Manchester, Deco Records is somewhat of a hidden gem in the world of vinyl records. Yet, it’s been going strong since the 1980s and has transformed along with the music business, moving from vinyl to cassettes to CDs and back to vinyl. Today, it sells stock with records from unsigned bands. Plus, there’s a guitar repair service, making it a particularly popular spot for music lovers and players.
