Summer is here

In the words of Will Smith, it’s summer, summer, summertime. Time to sit back and… hope that it doesn’t rain. Ok, so the last bit may have been added in by us. This is good ol’ Blighty, after all - an island that can turn the hottest temperatures into a damp, muggy wet-fest where you need wellington boots in July.

But alas, the weather’s never stopped us from having fun before and, other than a few days of sun, the summer also brings about festival season. And it doesn’t get much more exciting than that. Especially in London, where there is an abundance of gigs, parties and events to partake in.

So get your wellies out, or suntan lotion, or possibly both, and join us as we take a closer look at the festivals happening in the capital over the summer. We’ll also explore the areas where they’re located - just in case you want to live moments away from the action.

We Are FSTVL May 26th - 28th

See what they did there? Spelling festival as FSTVL. You know, to be all cool and hip. Clever clogs. It must be working, though, because We Are FSTVL is celebrating its fifth anniversary this year with a line-up that includes Carl Cox, Dizzee Rascal, Basement Jaxx and Craig David. The event takes place in Upminster between the 26th and 28th of May (that’s this weekend).

Upminster is located in East London, on the borders of Essex. There is a local tube station served by the District Line, which means you can enjoy easy access into the hustle and bustle of London, yet still be within close distance to the quaint Essex villages. It’s the best of both worlds.

Rental prices are competitive in Upminster, with one-bedroom properties starting at £1,145, two beds go for around £1,565, and three-beds-and-up achieve £2,215.To get We Are FSTVL tickets, mosey on over here.

British Summertime Hyde Park, 30th June to July 6th

This one's a doozy and takes place over six days in London’s most famous park, Hyde Park. Like We Are FSTVL, British Summertime Hyde Park is in its fifth year and features five one-day gigs that are treated as mini festivals. The line-up is mouth watering, with Kings of Leon, The Killers, Green Day, Phil Collins (for the oldies), and Justin Bieber (for the youngsters) gracing the stage. Everybody’s covered.

The surrounding areas of Hyde Park are some of the most in-demand in London. Take your pick from Knightsbridge with its Michelin-star restaurants and boutique designer shops or Paddington and Bayswater with their eclectic mix of eateries and white stucco period properties. There’s also Marble Arch and the West End, too.

There may be one slight hurdle to cross before you get the keys to your upmarket Hyde Park pad: prices are not cheap, with one-bedroom properties starting from £3,370 in Knightsbridge and £2,220 in Paddington. Still, you can get British Summertime Hyde Park tickets for much less.

Wireless Festival, 7-9 July 2017

Wireless Festival was created in 2005 and has been going strong for 12 years. The event has been around the block in terms of locations - Leeds, Birmingham and other areas of London, to name a few - but the last two years has seen it settle in Finsbury Park.

The area of Finsbury Park has grown in reputation over time, capturing an electricity and creativity that draws in many young professionals. We personally can’t think of anywhere more fitting than the N4 postcode for Wireless Festival’s location. If you’re attending this year’s event, the line-up includes modern icons like The Weeknd, Chance the Rapper and London’s very own, Skepta.

You can search for tickets here , and if you’re interested in living in the North London area, expect to pay monthly rental prices from £1,420 for a one-bedroom property, £1,800 for a two bed and £2,380 for three-beds-and-up.

Lovebox, Victoria Park, 14th and 15th July

Lovebox is gearing up for its 15th year as it cements its stronghold on the London festival scene. You could say it’s a festival veteran. The event takes place in Victoria Park, East London and features Frank Ocean as the headliner. Other artists performing include Kano, Mac Miller, Solange, and Rag’N’Bone Man.

Victoria Park’s location nearby Mile End affords local renters the chance to enjoy a vibrant area with a diverse mix of residents and a gritty, creative feel. The local Zone 2 tube is on the Central Line and Hammersmith and City lines, which means there are excellent connections around London.

Expect to pay around £1,340 per month for a one-bedroom property, £1,950 for a two bed, and £2,480 for three-beds-and-up. For more info on Lovebox tickets, here is where you want to be.

South West 4, August 26th and August 27th

Who needs Ibiza when you’ve got South West 4? Taking place in Clapham over the Bank Holiday Weekend, you can expect to hear heavy beats, super anthems and the purest bass drops. Don’t miss out on this EDM, electro and techno extravaganza where some of the world’s biggest DJs will be performing.

The weekend festival isn’t the only thing Clapham has going for it. The South-West London area has solidified itself as a firm favourite with young professionals, offering a vast selection of shiny new developments and charming period properties. There are also some excellent restaurants, not to mention an array of pubs, bars and clubs.

Rents in SW4 normally start from around £1,550 per month for one-bedroom properties, £1,880 for two beds, and £2,265 for three-beds-and-up. For more info on tickets for South West 4, click here.

Where do you find the best festivals? London, of course

Forget V Festival, see you later Glastonbury - it's all about London now. Not only is the Big Smoke England’s capital; it’s fast becoming the official home for festivals. And to top it all off, you don’t even need any tents or have to worry about sleeping in the mud - just hop on the tube after a day of dancing and head home to your cosy London pad. You might still have to bring a pair of wellies, though.
